Husband Of Slain U.K. Lawmaker Jo Cox Has An Important Message About Trump's Win

The husband of a British politician killed earlier this year encouraged Donald Trump’s opponents not to lose hope in the face of his presidential election win.

Trump was declared the winner of the U.S. election early Wednesday and, understandably, supporters of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton were disappointed. But Brendan Cox shared some advice that he thought his late wife, Jo, would offer.

Jo & I talked about #Trump winning & what we would do. Right now she'd say 'don't mourn, organise' & reassert what we hold in common.

— Brendan Cox (@MrBrendanCox)

Cox died in June after being shot and stabbed during a meeting with constituents. The 41-year-old Labour politician was known as an immigration champion, who campaigned for the U.K. to remain a member of the European Union ahead of the country’s referendum. Trump’s campaign has often been compared to the Brexit vote due to its shared nationalist themes.
